Around midnight last night, April 4, 2010, I checked for updates. Nothing.
Then I read this ** News Flash ** (via Google News) that an iPad Jailbreak [i.e., unauthorized access to the iPad ‘OS’] was included in a ‘new’ update to Windows 7! Whoa! They implicate Microsoft and Adobe as wanting to ‘hijack’ the iPad. Well you know how much I trust Microsoft and how I blame Adobe for my poor health. So, I would buy that. Wouldn’t put anything past those two companies.
So, I checked for updates. Bingo. Yet another KB915597 Windows Defender Update. The second one this month, the last, appropriately, having been released on April Fool’s day.
Sure enough: ‘Latest definition version: 1.79.1220.0’ OK. Here is a screen shot … (thanks, Snipper).
As I had said on April 2, the last Definition Set, viz. 1.79.953.0, had already been ‘bettered’ by the time Microsoft sent out the April 1 KB915597. There were three Definition Sets newer than that.
Seven (7) MORE Definition Sets since 1.79.953.0 … highlighted in yellow.
But, did YOU notice anything FISHY (though this is Easter Monday rather than Easter Friday).
The LAST definition is supposedly 1.79.1206.0. But, the April 5 KB915597 says 1.79.1220.0!
So there could be some truth to the claim that this update includes an iPad Jailbreak.
Anybody see the SUPREME irony in this … if it were TRUE.
Microsoft distributing a TROJAN in the guise of a security update. But, is anybody surprised? Anybody shocked? Ballmer looks best when in drag.
OK. I installed the April 5 KB915597. No problem.
I then did a FULL SCAN using Windows Defender. Took 35 minutes. Found nothing. That is what I expect. I have Avast Professional 4.8. I trust Avast … 99.6% of the time.
I then restarted the system. It restarted OK. I am posting this from the restarted system.
Though I own Apple shares we don’t have any Apple products in the house … not even an iPod. Don’t know why. In 1998 I had 9 Macs in the house!
Since I don’t own an iPad I can’t check the jailbreak. The iPad is too small for me. I like my HD screen to be at least 24″ big. We live in the sticks. Don’t get AT&T coverage. So can’t have an iPhone.
So there we are. Check it out.
Let me know if the rumor is true that Microsoft/Adobe undermined my buddy Jobs. Jobs has created so many jobs of late … with iPhone and iPad apps.
Good luck. All the best. Happy Easter Monday. Hope the Easter bunny was good to you. We got three real bunnies on Friday.
